Haikyu is an anime about volleyball with a storyline revolving around the Karasuno High School volleyball team with the protagonist Hinata Shouyou also with his talented teammates. However, besides them, you will probably ignore many other talents such as Rintaro Suna – Middle blocker of Inarizaki School.

1.  Suna’s Japanese name means.

Rintaro Suna or in Japanese is 角名 倫太郎. For every chinese character in his  name, it has a unique meaning and shows some of him. “倫” means Correct Relationship, “太” means Thick, “郎” is Man and “角名” is Reliable. Through his name, we can see some of him: Suna is very reliable in his position although his height is considered short for middle blocker. He also won great trust from his teammates despite Suna appearing to be a deadpan, quiet person.

2. The only character on the Inarizaki team who speaks in the standard Tokyo dialect.

Inarizaki high school is a high school in the Hyogo Prefecture, which is a prefecture of Japan located in the Kansai region of Honshu. It is not surprising that most members of Inarizaki’s volleyball team speak in the Kansai dialect. Except for Suna the only one on the team speaks in the standard Tokyo dialect because he is from Aichi Prefecture which is located in Honshu Island (which is the most populous island with the capital Tokyo). But he got scouted and came to Inarizaki which is in Hyogo.

3. One of the best middle blockers in the national league.

This was recognized by Suna’s opponents from Karasuno’s team – Kei Tsukishima. And that\’s right, he is a very formidable player with incredible instincts and game sense. When the team is attacked by an opponent\’s team, he shows himself to be a great defense with the ability to block the ball quickly, fast acceleration, capable blocker that can think, but his  most notable trait is his ability to utilize his torso when he spikes. This makes him the best defensive and score points along with Inarizaki’s ACE, Ojiro Aran, when playing in the match against Karasuno’s team.

4. The ability to manipulate other blockers.

This was revealed by a Fan of Suna when he blocked out Tanaka several times in a match of Tokyo Nationals. Fans of him explain that he is able to manipulate blockers by saying it is how he is able to hit his spike. He’s different from other blocker players when he can adjust his body during the jump. That makes his corner wider, increasing the difficulty of blocking those hits, almost impossible. This ability is further demonstrated when Suna is able to spike past Kageyama and Tsukishima and he is clearly seen using his torso to adjust his spike.  

5. Possesses two of the strongest skills most volleyball players want.

As said above, his first formidable skill is Wide-Range Spike. His powerful performance lies at incredible width with his spike. In addition to using his shoulders, he has the ability to rotate the whole upper body while spiking to increase his range. He uses speeding along with controlling his body to manipulate opponents before he spikes into another angle. Moreover, Sharp Game Sense also gives him many advantages. Suna possesses a sharp instinct, akin to a sixth sense for the game. He can quickly adapt to the opponent’s play while giving ways to effectively defend. During the match against Kurasano, he can block almost any opponent\’s spike.
